When to call us
What qualifies as an HVAC emergency
If one of these is happening, call the 24/7 line. We’d rather you call and hear “that’s not urgent” than sit on a real problem.
No heat in cold weather
Furnace, heat pump, or geothermal is down and outdoor temp is below ~45°F. Frozen pipes are the real risk — call us.
No cool in hot weather
AC or heat pump failed and indoor temperature won't drop below ~80°F. Especially urgent with infants, seniors, or medical equipment in the home.
Water leak or active damage
Leaking refrigerant lines, burst coils, overflowing condensate pumps, or anything actively damaging drywall, flooring, or finished spaces.
How the 24/7 line actually works
Straight talk: we’re a small shop, and we run it honestly.
The 24/7 line is a real line, answered by a real person. During office hours (Mon–Fri 7 am–4 pm) you’re talking to whoever’s at the shop. Outside those hours, the call rolls to the owner on rotation. Our target is to get back to you within 30 minutes.
If the issue is clearly an emergency (no heat in winter, no cool in summer, water damage), we’ll dispatch as fast as we can. If it’s something that can wait until morning without making things worse, we’ll say so — and book you into the next regular-hours slot at the normal rate instead of the after-hours rate.
We don’t guarantee an arrival window. Weather, existing commitments, and how spread we are across the county can stretch it. But we’ll always tell you the honest ETA on the phone before you wait.
Emergency FAQ
How fast will someone actually call me back?
Our target is 30 minutes at any hour of the day. Real answer: depends on who's on rotation and how spread we are on other calls. Worst case, it's under two hours. If you don't hear back in 30 min, call again — we'd rather you double-tap than sit in a cold house wondering.
Is there an after-hours fee?
Yes — evenings, weekends, and holidays are billed at the after-hours diagnostic rate. We'll give you the rate on the phone before dispatching so there are no surprises. If the fix requires a return visit during regular hours for parts, the second visit is billed at normal rates.
Do you come out for thermostat issues?
If the thermostat is the thing between you and having heat in January, yes. If it's a programming question or a dead battery and you have heat otherwise, we'll walk you through it on the phone and book a regular-hours visit if needed.
What's your service area for emergencies?
Same as normal: Monroe County and neighboring Ontario County. Rochester, Pittsford, Webster, Fairport, Penfield, Brighton, Henrietta, Greece, Victor, Canandaigua. Farther out, call us anyway and we'll tell you honestly whether we can get there or should connect you with someone closer.
What should I do before you arrive?
Power down the unit if it's making an unusual noise or burning-smell. For leaks, shut off the nearest water valve you can find. Take a photo of the thermostat reading and the outdoor unit if you can — saves us 5 minutes on arrival. Don't pour antifreeze, kerosene, or hot water on a frozen line.
I'm not sure if it's an emergency. Should I still call?
Yes. One call is better than guessing. If it's not truly an emergency we'll tell you and we'll book you into the next available regular-hours slot without the after-hours fee.
