Where geothermal actually pencils around Rochester

Geothermal demand around Rochester correlates inversely with natural-gas availability. The towns where ground-source heat pumps actually get installed are the ones where the alternative is propane or fuel oil at $3.50+/gal —Mendon (Honeoye Falls), Canandaigua, Victor, Webster’s east side, Scottsville, and the rural Genesee River corridor. Mendon in particular has long been a hot spot for ground-source installs in Monroe County, driven by the combination of large rural lots and the propane / fuel-oil fuel mix.

Natural-gas-served suburbs — Brighton, Greece, Henrietta, much of Penfield — have one-tenth the geothermal density. There, we lead with cold-climate air-source heat pumps that retrofit cleanly onto existing ductwork. Our job is to tell you which path actually pencils for your house — not to pitch one system to everyone.

The geology is on our side everywhere in the region: USGS hydrogeologic studies confirm the entire Monroe/Ontario lowlands are drillable for closed-loop systems. Fuel-mix economics — not geology — is the constraint that decides where geothermal wins.
